Jozef Pienkawa

Post by brickbustermaybe »

I am looking for any info for a Jozef Pienkawa. He lived and died in
Warsaw Poland in 1938 at the age of 93.He is my great-great grandfather. He was married to Elzbieta Dobrowolska but I don't know the date of marriage. However I do know that they had a son named Kazimierz born in 1899.Also know that Kazimierz had two stepbrothers that immigrated to Russia.Their profession was building church steeples. I don't know if it would help but me grandmother worked at the post office her name is Elsa Pienkawa and was born around 1900 and Kazimierz was a machinist. In 1918 he ended up in the Polish Air Force.

I did not find the PIENKAWAs using the search engine, so I manually examined a few Warsaw directories, since the search engine is based on OCR, which is not 100% accurate.

I don't see PIENKAWA in the 1930 Warsaw Address, Business, and Telephone Directory (Książka Informacyjno-Adresowa Cała Warszawa), where I would expect: http://genealogyindexer.org/frame/d219/1110/d.

Nor in the 1935/1936 Warsaw Telephone Directory, although not everyone had a telephone: http://genealogyindexer.org/frame/d671/248/d.

And not in the 1908 Warsaw Address and Business Directory: http://genealogyindexer.org/frame/d214/602/d.

Many DOBROWOLSKA matches in directories, but, unfortunately, nothing for PIENKAWA.

The step-brothers' occupation might eventually be helpful, especially if you know where in Russia they went and when (before or after WWI).

I don't know which area of Russia that the stepbrothers went to but I do know that they sent a letter saying to not contact them so I would assume that they may have been arrested or close to it. I don't know if it would be helpful but I do know the town that Jozef Pienkawa lived in it was Otock. I don't remember if I mentioned that he was a professor at a school in Warsaw I think that he taught Horticulture. I found out that Jozef was married in Zyrardowie, Poland. What is confusing is the date of marriage which is 1923. But it does not make sense because my grandfather was born in 1899.The only way that it would make sense from her ( my grandmother's notes) is if the date was her marriage date since she gives my grandfather's age as 24, if that is the case then Jozef's marriage date would be 1875.
